Toddlers learning how to walk focus on what has caught their attention, not on what is directly before their feet.   When we have goals, we do need to be aware of the obstacles that are right in front of us, but we will lose our way if we pay too much attention to them.   In the same way, when we live a life with the goal of serving God, we acknowledge the obstacles at our feet, but we keep our main focus on the Gospel.
